Art Glass Apothecary Vase-circa 1960s

$58.00

  • Details
Hand blown, artisan made glass vase picked at online art auction in Dallas, TX.
    Custom made and not duplicated.
Although unsigned, the techniques used in the production of this piece are in the style of a master glass blower. Possibly trained in Murano or trained in the many techniques originating in Italy.
The underlying “elongated blemishes” are from marvering . This gives it a splintered coloring pattern that can look like a crack in light refraction.
The artist thickened the walls by adding more molten glass, creating the "double paned" look with swirling colors. This is created by layering or twisting different colored glasses before blowing. The swirling patterns are a result of combining glasses with different melting temperatures and then manipulating them as they are blown and shaped, a process that requires precision and skill to prevent the colors from fusing into an undesirable mixture. The metal oxides used as color additives where manganese for red and maroon and selenium for pink. Tin oxide was used for the opalescent white spots and streaks. Copper oxide or particles was used to create the “rustic aged” color as well as the golden under tint. The interesting technique that is rare in glassblowing is the presence of the gold flakes in the layers of glass.
The sparkling is either gold leafing or an adventurene technique. Both processes, in glassblowing, are representation of high quality glass production and exceptional artistic expression.

The artist’s color palette is a “Valentine’s Medley “ of mainly pink, reds and maroons, white and the gold flakes. Perfect for roses or carnations.
Valentine's Day colors are used to symbolize different types of love and affection.
Red represents deep, passionate love, pink symbolizes admiration and gentler love, and white signifies purity and new relationships. These colors are deeply rooted in history, mythology, and the tradition of floriography.
