1908 Enterprise Tinned No.22 Meat Grinder-Philadelphia, PA

$70.00

  • Details
Made by American metal foundry and hardware manufacturer-The Enterprise Manufacturing Company in the “City of Brotherly Love “ Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Founded in 1864, the company specialized in heavy-duty cast-iron hardware and kitchen items, operating until it was sold in 1955-1956 to the Silex Corporation (now Hamilton Beach appliances). They were renowned for producing large-scale grocery store coffee grinders, small iron grinders for home use, cherry pitters, apple peelers, sausage stuffers, lard presses, and the famous early American "Mrs. Potts" sad irons.
Enterprise’s products were primarily made of cast iron, sometimes featuring brass, tin-plating (or tinned), and often even wood components.
Their premium kitchen appliances from 1890-1920 were the Tinned Cast Iron Products such as food choppers , sausage stuffers, and meat grinders (including this No. 22 model) that were made of cast iron and then hot-tinned (coated in tin) to protect iron from rusting and food contamination.
Because of the 20th century tinned processes, this chopper has lasted over a hundred years. The quality and durability is a testament of the American Industrial Revolution and a great find.
