These are well crafted tapersticks made in the Japanese 1980s. A taperstick is a candlestick holder designed to hold taper candles. A taper candle is a long, slender candle used for decorative purposes or during religious ceremonies. Tapersticks come in various shapes and sizes. They have been used for centuries to hold and display taper candles. These two are brassware made in Hong Kong for Carnat International. Carnat International was an importer of fine brassware and sold giftware in the Dallas Market Center during the 1980s. The Dallas Market Center (located on Interstate 35) has been a holding trade events since 1957. Today, the marketplace attracts attendees from all 50 US states and 84 countries. In the 1980s, Dallas Market Center was comprised of six buildings with 6.9 million square feet of housing space and employed 60,000 people with 3,200 tenants. It is one of the largest Expo Centers in America. On November 22, 1963, the Dallas Trade Mart was where President John F. Kennedy's motorcade was enroute to when the President was assassinated in Dealey Plaza. Kennedy was scheduled to give a speech at a luncheon in the market's Grand Courtyard.
