1970s Casino & Resort Cocktail Utensil Giftware-AGC, Hong Kong

This item is a vintage plastic (molded polystyrene) faux marble Japanese holder and faux ivory appetizer fork set. Appetizer forks are also called cocktail, hors d’oeuvre, and shrimp utensils. These are a popular vintage addition to a wedding place setting, tea party/party, or to clean your teeth even. This fork set was designed by the American Gift Corporation (Miami, FL) and manufactured in Hong Kong, Japan by Zunino Altman (ZA) plastics during the 1970s.
American Gift Corporation (AGC) or AGIFTCORP, was established in 1925, and is headquartered in Miami, FL. Still today, AGC is the world’s largest giftware, plasticware and souvenir supplier of resort destinations, casinos, and hotels gift shops. During the Golden Era of Las Vegas (70s) several casinos and hotels were partnering with Japanese-themed restaurants and karaoke parlors up and down the strip. It was during this era that AGC supplied most all of the Las Vegas Entertainment District with promotional supplies, souvenirs, gift and promotional barware. AGC had a 10,000-item catalog that included plasticware shaped in chopsticks, sushi platters, appetizer utensils, trays, etc. Buffets had Oriental-themed cuisine, Kanji characters on plates and the International Hotel even opened Benihana Village in September of 1974 that boasted a Japanese garden, ponds, and bridges.
This AGC item is an off-white (cream colored) plastic molded "lattice & rose" patterned cylinder holder with rose-finial lid. It is molded to resemble marble covered canisters of the Oriental catacombs. The fork & pick utensils are ornate faux ivory and 100% re-useable and dishwasher safe but recommend hand-washing. The set includes 14 utensils and in the "interest of disclosure" more utensils are available online to completely fill holder if desired...and this is NOT CELLULOID!!!
Holder measures 5 inches tall with a 2.5-inch diameter base. The utensils measure 3.25 inches long, and the entire set weighs 2 ounces. Great condition and has SEVERAL USES!
