A peppercorn mill and salt dispenser made from wood. Both come with purchase in the original box. Both stand 7” tall and are part of the Woodcrest woodenware brand name. Woodcrest is a registered trade mark for Styson, Inc. Styson was a retail incorporation owned by Joseph B. Stier and located in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan in New York City. Joseph Stier (1907-1985) held a few kitchen and art supply patents that date back to 1956. Stier’s earlier endeavors included another registered trademark of mid century modern housewares and decor known as Modern Mosaic. Modern Mosaic was mostly pottery pieces sold under Stier’s company Styson Art Products Co. at 543 West 23rd Street in NYC, New York. Stier would outsource producion of his giftware and woodenware to Japan and Taiwan. Once imported to New York, Styson Art Products would put a 5 year warranty on the items before retailing. By the late 1960s, Joseph was operating solely under Styson, Inc. and importing from Japan several Woodcrest products. In the 1970s, Styson’s Woodcrest catalog of kitchenware’s included designs of salad bowls, coasters, spice racks, napkin holders, recipe boxes, salt & pepper shakers and much more. Styson, Inc. and Woodcrest were operating in the New York City area until Joseph Stier passed away in 1985. His trademark woodenware incorporation Woodcrest was completely dissolved by 1989 making Modern Mosaic and Woodcrest by Styson a memory.
