This is a 4" tall, tabletop old-fashioned bottlecap opener of the "Drunkard Man" that was a popular niche novelty design throughout the 20th century. Hundreds of giftware manufacturers made the "Drunkard Man" statuettes in several different ways, materials, colors, and sizes for most of the 20th century, until fading away in most barware and gift shop markets by the late 1980s. The actual "Drunkard Man" motif is steeped in early 20th century folklore that was depicted in illustrations, postcards, and comedic literature. The man was depicted in several positions while being drunk in public settings. The earliest image depicting the "Drunkard Man" and a light pole is believed to be around the 1930s or 1940s in illustrations. The metal figurines with the light pole fashioned to the cap-piercing claw to lift off a bottle cap was quick to follow as humorous bar room gag. By the 1950s and throughout the 1960s, the irony of the subject matter catapulted the kitsch item into the American roadside gift shops, bar rooms, desktop humor and even continuing as a "gag gift" for that booze loving friend. This particular item is in great shape and has the rustic appearance, made of bronze and weighing 5.5 ounces. Unbranded
